Game we played:
Little Boy Who??? After hearing a few lines of a lesser known Mother Goose nursery rhyme, the player will complete the rhyme. Find Mother Goose nursery rhymes at LaptimeSongs.com.
Early literacy tip:
Rhyming is a great way for little ones to develop phonemic awareness, or the ability to hear the individual sounds in a word. This is a crucial step in pre-literacy skills. Not only does it help when new readers sound out new words, it also helps them develop a feel for the rhythm of language which develops fluency as they master reading. But wait! There’s more! It also helps them predict what might come next which is valuable for comprehension and for tackling new words. So keep repeating those rhymes and finding new ways to engage your story time crowd with the sounds of language!
Let's hear from you!
My question for you: How do you share nursery rhymes with your little patrons? I’d love to hear from you! You can email me at laptimesongs@gmail.com or leave a comment below.
